Abbey Lou

Neuropathy Clear / Normal

Abbey was a Grade A racing bitch, and she ran at some really high class tracks.  She only ran in 35 races, all in the year 2003.  She suffered a career ending injury at Palm Beach Kennel Club in her last race on 22 Nov 2003.

I purchased her in 2004 from her owner & breeder, Steve Schlacter of River Road Racing, when she was made available.  I had seen a photo of her on a website and it was love at first sight.  I wanted her.

When we first got Abbey, I thought that she wasn't very bright.  Boy, did I learn differently!  What it is, she's so smart, she plays dumb!  I've caught her figuring out a problem and, when she's caught, she just looks at you and goes, "What?"

One of the things that Abbey does, which really drives the other dogs nuts, is when they are comfortably resting and snuggled down on a bed, she'll come over and push them off.  They'll snark at her and show teeth.  She totally ignores them, gets on the bed and they, totally disgusted, harumph and stalk off to find a different bed. I don't know how she gets away with it.

When I bought Abbey, I planned on entering her in the show ring.  However, she really didn't like showing.  She'd turn from a very pretty bitch into a very expensive pet.  One judge saw her on a good day and put her up for Winners Bitch, Best of Winners.  She was promptly retired from showing.

When Abbey was purchased, we were warned that, more than likely, she would never be able to lure course because of her racing injury.  We worked on rehabbing her and, after retiring her from showing, we began competing her in the field.  She quickly finished her AKC field championship, and, in 2006, Abbey won Best of Breed for Greyhounds at the Region 3 Regional lure course, finishing her ASFA field championship.  She was then promptly retired!  Now, she's strictly a house hound.

In 2007, Abbey was  bred to Dash and she is the dam of the Flag Day litter.  She is a great mom and to this day, many months later, she still grooms her babies.  Her pups are smart and strong.   Look for Abbey's puppies at a dog show near you!

FLASH! - Abbey's brindled boy, Ch DM Flag of Our Fathers, finished his breed ring championship at the Valencia Valley Kennel Club shows under judge Katie Gammell with a 3 point major.  He was 15 months old.

FLASH! - Abbey's black daughter, DM Jolie Noire, is major pointed in both the breed ring and in AKC lure coursing.  She is halfway to both championships.

FLASH! - Abbey's blue fawn son, DM Star Spangled Banner, received an invite to the American version of the world famous, Waterloo Cup. Banner now has 62 points towards a NOFCA coursing championship.

FLASH! - Abbey's three offspring here at DM Greyhounds are all Dual Champions!  All are pointed in both ASFA & open field coursing.
