Bugsy
Bugsy got his call name because, as a puppy, when he'd lay down, the white on his chest would make the silhouette of a long-eared jackrabbit, just like Bugs Bunny! And, one of my favorite movie scenes is in the movie, The Perfect Storm. It is the bar scene before they go out, when "Bugsy" is trying to pick up a woman. In the background, the Rod Stewart song, Sailing, is playing. "The rhythm of my heart is beating like a drum and the words 'I love you' rolling off my tongue. Never will I go, for I found my perfect home. Where the Ocean Meets the Sky, I'll be sailing." Having been a boat bum for many years, that scene brings back fond memories and some tears.
Bugsy is referred to as 'the little black dog.' However, he really isn't all that small, standing a good 30" tall. Bugs has two boys, Pat & Jared, that he calls his own. Bugsy finished his breed ring championship with back to back majors. The first was under borzoi breeder & judge Lena Tamboer, who awarded him Winners Dog, at the Greyhound Club of America's Eastern Specialty back on 5 Oct 2005. The next day at the prestigious Morris & Essex shows, he went Winners Dog for a 4-point major under noted sighthound judge Gayle Bontecou.
Bugsy lives in New Jersey with Betsey Proctor and her family. |
