Spoof

This is one of my favorite pictures of Spoof as it shows his true nature - ever the cut up & comedian.  He was a real character, as well as BJ's littermate & brother.

Spoof was very smart and we needed to be careful as to what we let him see us do.  For instance, he learned how to turn and open doorknobs by watching us go in and out of the house.  Because of that, we had to lock all of our doors.  He also knows how to open the doors under the countertops and the back window of the truck cap.  Then, he figured out how to open the fence gates.  That one had us chasing greyhounds up the mountain one day.  He stayed home while the others went bunnying up the mountain.  Oh my....

Spoof attended one of the ASFA International Invitationals held in Colorado.  Since BJ was still competing, it was probably in either 2000 or 2001.  He was such a clown and very people oriented.  In fact, he was so people oriented that as he was running the course, he swung by the photographer, Dan Gauss, just to say "Hi" and "Bye".  After all, he had to "get the bunny."  What a dog!

In addition to opening things, Spoof had several tricks he would perform on command.  One of the best was his "big Navy salute".  He also would 'sit up', 'shake' and 'touch', among others.  He was a big hit with his "big Navy salute" one year at the greyhound gathering in Abilene, KS.  That same year, during the auction, he tired of being on the floor.  Now, the chairs at the auction were not fold up chairs, but they weren't all that far removed from being one.  The were armless chairs that didn't fold.  The chairs were all lined up, side by side and occupied by people.  Rob was sitting next to a woman, perhaps Merry, when Spoof started creeping up into his lap.  Realizing that there wasn't anyway for him to sit ONLY on Rob's lap, he continued his climb up and draped himself over both Rob and Merry's laps!  As he lay there, all sprawled out over two laps, he looked up and back at Rob, wagging his tail.  The place was in stitches.  Somewhere we have a photo of the moment.  Now....  to find it!

Some of my dogs are featured in the color photo section of the book "Retired Racing Greyhounds for Dummies".  Spoof is one of them.  In the photo section there is a picture of a white greyhound with an hourglass blaze between two brindle eye patches.  He is blasting through snow and the snow is flying all around him.  That's our Spoof.

Spoof was both an AKC and ASFA field champion.
